Getting started

What do I need?

An iPhone with iOS 18 or later. An Apple Watch with watchOS 11 or later is optional: with one, RUN12 can send sessions to the Workout app or coach you on the watch. Without one, you can run with your iPhone or log runs by hand.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up. Everything is stored on your iPhone.

How is my plan built?

From your goal, the days and time you have, what you've run recently and the safety questions you answer during setup. Plans start with easy run-walk sessions and are measured in minutes. Each session after that is planned from how the last ones went and how you felt the next day.

Apple Health

My runs aren't importing.
  • Open Profile → Apple Health and tap Import now.
  • Check Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → RUN12 and make sure Workouts is allowed. Apple Health doesn't tell apps when reading was denied, so a type you didn't allow simply looks empty.
  • Runs recorded on Apple Watch can take a few minutes to reach your iPhone. Profile → Apple Health → Import log shows what each import found.
Can I use RUN12 without Apple Health?

Yes. Choose to continue without it during setup, then log runs from Today. You can allow access later from Profile.

What does RUN12 write to Apple Health?

Runs you record with RUN12 Coach, and, only if you turn it on in Profile, the 1 to 10 effort rating you give a run. Nothing else. The privacy policy has the full list.

Apple Watch

How do I send a session to my watch?

On Today, answer the quick check before the run, then tap Send to Apple Watch. The session appears in the Workout app on your watch. Allow scheduling under Profile → Apple Watch if asked. Your watch records the run, and RUN12 imports it from Apple Health afterwards.

The session says Failed.

RUN12 shows a failed send as failed, never as done. Check that your watch is paired, nearby and unlocked, that it runs watchOS 11 or later, and that scheduling is allowed in Profile → Apple Watch. Then send it again.

What is RUN12 Coach?

An optional way to run, chosen in Profile → How you run. The RUN12 app on your watch records the run, plays spoken cues through your headphones and asks how it's going; answer with the Digital Crown or a tap. If you say it's hard, it can lengthen a walk or shorten a run. It never makes a session harder. Tap Hurts to end the run straight away.

What is the Diagnostics screen?

A set of device checks (background sessions, headphone audio, the watch connection and similar) that help us confirm features work on real hardware. Find it under Profile → How RUN12 decides on iPhone, or the toolbar icon on the watch. Running it is optional and shares nothing unless you send the report yourself.

Check-ins and plan changes

Why did my plan change?

Tap Why? on Today. It shows the plan before, the evidence RUN12 used, the plan now and the rule that decided. The Progress tab keeps every past decision.

Why is running paused?

Something you reported, such as pain while walking or pain that is getting worse, means running isn't the right next step. RUN12 suggests rest or comfortable non-impact activity, and in some cases suggests seeing a clinician. RUN12 can't clear you to run; answer the next check-in honestly and the plan follows how you are.

I missed a check-in.

That's fine. RUN12 treats a missing answer as unknown and holds the plan steady rather than progressing. Answer the next one when you can.

Your data

How do I export my data?

Profile → Your data → Prepare export, then Share export. You get one JSON file with everything RUN12 has stored.

How do I delete my data?

Profile → Your data → Delete everything. This removes your plan, check-ins, decisions and imported workouts from your iPhone. It doesn't change Apple Health. Deleting the app also removes everything; we keep no copy.
